Community Mornings
☕ Man O’War GFC Community Tea & Coffee Morning
At Man O’War GFC, community is at the heart of everything we do — and what better way to strengthen those connections than over a warm cup of tea or coffee?
We’re delighted to invite you to our Community Tea & Coffee Morning, held every Friday from 10am to midday at the Clubhouse. Whether you’re a longtime resident, a new face in the area, or just passing through, you’ll receive a warm welcome from our friendly volunteers.
Everyone is welcome
What is it?
The weekly Friday Coffee Club regularly provides an opportunity for residents, neighbours, and friends in our community to meet and connect over a ‘cuppa’, a friendly chat, and, perhaps, an informative talk or even a bit of exercise on the new walkway. In fact, the group was originally formed with the aim of encouraging those in our community who had become isolated during the Covid-19 pandemic to get out and about. At the same time, it sought to provide a welcoming forum where they could re-establish contact with their neighbours and the wider community. Moreover, it is a completely informal group, with no set rules for attendance, and as a result, everyone is made to feel at home and included.
How often, when/where
The group meets every Friday in the Man O’War GFC clubhouse between 10.00 am and 12.00 noon. People are free to come and go at any time within those hours
Types of things we do
Apart from exercising and catching up on local news, the group sometimes invites guest speakers or demonstrators. Over time, these talks have covered topics like crime prevention and home security. Other subjects include services at Balbriggan Primary Care Centre, the history of Man O’War, and Fingal CoCo’s useful services. They have also discussed Intreo (Social Welfare) services and even held Christmas wreath-making sessions.
Looking ahead, the group plans more talks on topics that interest members. They may also organize day trips to historic or cultural sites.
Furthermore, the group keeps close ties with the Fingal County Council Community Forum. This forum connects community groups from other rural villages in Fingal. This link helps foster support and cooperation across the region.
