Celebrating 10 Years – A Decade of Community, Camaraderie & Club Spirit

Ten years ago this very weekend, we came together to mark a defining milestone in the story of Man O’War GFC — the official opening of our (then brand-new) clubhouse. From start to finish, it was a weekend bursting with pride, community spirit, and lasting memories.

The celebrations began on Friday evening (June 19th) with a heartfelt Community Mass at 6.30pm. Afterwards, the energy carried straight into a lively Masters Football Match at 7.30pm, where mentors and past players took to the pitch — rekindling rivalries, friendships, and stories from years gone by.

On Saturday, the club once again came alive, this time with the joy and energy of our youngest members. From 10am to 2pm, Juvenile Games filled the grounds with excitement, laughter, and promise for the future.

The heart of the weekend, however, came at 3pm with the Official Opening Ceremony — a proud moment as then-GAA President Aogán Ó Fearghail formally opened the clubhouse. He was warmly welcomed by our then club chairperson, Mick McKiernan, alongside Dublin GAA men’s and ladies county board officials, local sponsors, community dignitaries, and representatives from neighbouring clubs. Furthermore, Deirdre Hurley served as Master of Ceremonies, guiding the day with poise, warmth, and pride.

Following the formalities, the celebration flowed naturally into a Reception & Refreshments at 4pm, featuring a display of old club memorabilia on the walls of the hall. This was then followed by a Men’s League Match, and as evening fell, the festivities reached their peak with our Summer Hooley and BBQ at 8pm.

Looking back now, it is truly remarkable to see how many of the young players running around that weekend are now proudly lining out for our adult teams. Indeed, the spirit planted that day has grown deep roots and continues to flourish.

Here’s to a decade of memories, milestones, and community — and, above all, to many more chapters yet to come.
